October 5 and 6, 2016
Athens-Clarke and Oconee County, Georgia
Live, Work and Play
On behalf of our two communities, we want to cordially invite you to join us for the third Perspective On Progress Tour, a unique showcase of what makes Athens-Clarke and Oconee counties one of Georgia’s finest regions in which to live, work and play.
A Startling Combination of Lifestyle Assets
This region is rich in history, full of culture and populated by a diverse citizenry that epitomizes the hardworking spirit of Georgia, and during your stay you’ll get to experience some of its best treasures.
In addition to the prime sites you’ll see in the Classic City, you will enjoy a dinner cooked by Peter Dale (named Food & Wine magazine’s The People’s Best New Chef Southeast) at the beautiful Hotel Indigo; have the opportunity to tour one of the nation’s newest high-end industrial manufacturing facilities; and visit one of Athens’ lastest breweries.
An Economic Development Collaboration
Athens-Clarke and Oconee counties recognize that economic development does not adhere to lines drawn on a map. That approach yielded one of Georgia’s largest economic development announcements of the decade when Caterpillar built a $200 million, 850,000 square-foot manufacturing facility on a shared “mega-site” that straddles the county line. Local officials from both communities worked in unison to attract Caterpillar, and that type of cooperation and coordination is assured to all those interested in the region. The plant is expected to be fully operational and staffed by 2015 with 1400 employees.
Discover the great things underway in Athens-Clarke and Oconee counties and be a part of our success.
